What is Shielded Cable?

Aug. 21, 2021

There is a shielding layer wrapping conductor, which is usually braided copper net or copper berth (aluminum). The shielding layer needs to be grounded, and external interference signals can be introduced into the earth by this layer. It blocks external electromagnetic signals and improves the clarity of signals transmitted through internal conductive elements.

There are three types of shielded cables, braided shielding, foil shielding, and spiral shielding.

When should use shielded cables be?

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is very harmful to the performance of electrical and electronic equipment and systems. As a result, shielded wires and cables can benefit almost any industry or industrial process that uses such equipment, such as data centers, medical facilities, military sites, and so on.

How to use shielded cables?

One end of the shielding wire is grounded and the other end is suspended.

When the transmission distance of the signal line is relatively long, due to the different grounding resistance of the two ends or the current of the pen line, the potential of the two grounding sites may be different. at this time, if the two ends are grounded, the shielding layer will have current, which will interfere with the signal. therefore, in this case, we generally adopt the method of grounding at one point and hanging at the other end, which can avoid the formation of this kind of interference.
