The headlight socket is the female connector for the headlight bulb and is used as the power source for the bulb. A headlight socket consists of a female connector designed to work with the bulb and connects to the wire pigtail that connects to the vehicle's electrical system.

How to check if the headlight is energized: Using a test light

Unplug the bulb electrical connector.

Turn on the headlight.

Connect the test lamp to a good ground and touch the test lamp probe to the power side of the connector terminal.

In most cases, the problem is caused by the OE wire gauge, which is too small (usually 20 gauge) to handle the current drawn by the headlight bulb. In other cases, the problem is the result of a loose terminal connection, which can cause resistance in the circuit and lead to overheating.
