Automotive Headlight Connectors

Are all headlight connectors the same?

Headlight sockets consist of a female connector designed to work with the bulb and connect to the wire pigtail that connects to the vehicle's electrical system. There are several headlight styles to choose from and the sockets and plugs are not universal.

What makes a headlight connector melt?

In most cases, the problem is caused by the OE wire gauge, which is too small (usually 20 gauge) to handle the current drawn by the headlight bulb. In other cases, the problem is the result of a loose terminal connection, which can cause resistance in the circuit and lead to overheating.

Are headlight sockets universal?

No matter what manufacturer or where you buy them from, they will fit as long as you buy the correct fittings for your vehicle. Some customers think they have to buy bulbs specific to their country, but this is not the case.

How do I test the headlight connector?

Place the tip of the tester through the wire insulation behind the socket so that it makes contact with the wire. The tester should light up two of the three wires (the ground wire does not light up). If two wires light up, the wiring is good. Only the socket needs to be replaced.

Do all headlights fit all cars?

Every car has different lights and therefore needs different bulbs. There are headlights, fog lights, brake lights, indicators, side lights and interior lights - just to name a few! In addition to all the different bulbs, there are also different accessories, depending on the make and model of your vehicle.

What is a headlight wiring harness?

Headlight harnesses are the most versatile dog harnesses on the market today. Highly reflective, lightweight and waterproof. Headlight harnesses are also equipped with an integrated focused beam LED in the chest that can output over 80 lumens.

What is a pigtail connector?

A pigtail connector is an insulated replacement connector that is filled with dielectric grease to prevent moisture from entering the connector. You do not need to strip the end of the wire. You simply insert the wire into the connector and use pliers to squeeze the blue cap down.

Can you put an LED bulb in a halogen headlight?

Many drivers are tired and frustrated with the dull yellow light output from halogen headlights, so we are often asked, "Can I put LED or HID bulbs in my halogen headlights?" . The good news is, yes, you can.
